We entered Palace Square to a symphony playing on one of the huge sound stages on the square for the White Nights celebrations. Sound system fabulous.... the music, the place, the sun, the breeze, wow wow WOW
Jordan Staircase of the Winter Palace, St Petersburg is so called because on the Feast of the Epiphany. The Tsar descended this imperial staircase in state for the ceremony of the "Blessing of the Waters" of the Neva River, a celebration of Christ's baptism in the Jordan River.
This angel atop the Alexander Column in the center of Palace Square is said to have the face of Emperor Alexander I. The column memorializes the victory of Alexander I and Russia over Napoleon in the Napoleonic Wars.
