As we exited the Hermitage, Alexander's column is framed in one of the archways onto Palace Square.

This angel atop the Alexander Column in the center of Palace Square is said to have the face of Emperor Alexander I. The column memorializes the victory of Alexander I and Russia over Napoleon in the Napoleonic Wars.
